The fight for justice is not over. San Diego State Panhellenic is dedicated to fighting for racial equality. Through the Black Lives Matter movement, it has become apparent that racism is an unwelcome and saddening part of the rich history involving sororities and fraternities nationwide. While we would never ignore this fact, Panhellenic will do its part moving forward to ensure we work to create a diverse and welcoming community for people of color.
San Diego State Panhellenic is donating $10,000 to the Black Womxn Deserve Mutual Aid Fund. This foundation aids women of color in providing financial relief to meet and lift up demands for racial justice, advocate for political change, and provide a voice for the most vulnerable. A fundraiser will be also hosted to continue to raise even MORE money for this organization (more details to come within the following days).
The money we are donating is not where we will stop in the fight for racial equality. Panhellenic will dedicate a section of our budget to implement mandatory information sessions about inclusion and racism for all members. This includes, but is not limited to: guest speakers, workshops, and inter-council trainings. We are not taking this situation lightly and are continuously brainstorming ways to make our community more diverse and welcoming to people of color. We acknowledge the past and are focused on doing everything in our power to make a change going forward to ensure our recruitment process is a fair and welcoming experience for all.
